The more “Affection” explains itself, the less sympathetic it becomes.

The film is almost too reverent toward Goodman, dousing her work with such encomium that it becomes hard to access her work. 

It is accessible enough for younger viewers without condescending to them, yet complex enough to engage an adult audience.
