The Legend of Korra: "The Coronation" Review
Warning: Full spoilers from the episode to follow.
By and large, this week’s Korra was all about setting storylines in motion. While nothing here was really accomplished, we did get a good sense of where some things are heading, particularly in terms of Kuvira’s role in Book Four. This started with Prince Wu’s coronation, which conveniently brought in familiar faces from all over the world to Republic City. This included several meetings between estranged family members and friends, as well as fun appearances from Eska, Desna, Zuko and (presumably) our first glimpse at the new Fire Lord, Zuko’s daughter!
Perhaps the most notable reunion here was Mako and Bolin’s, as they butted heads over the fate of the Earth Kingdom. Really, this marked the first time the Bending Brothers had been pitted against each other, which could make for an interesting conflict down the line. However, despite their squabbles, it seems they’ve already started to find common ground, as Mako realized the potential ramifications of putting Wu on the throne (per Bolin’s argument). Whether the two resolve their differences before things get too messy remains to be seen, but, like I said, I’m intrigued by the “brother against brother” dynamic that’s percolating here.
